Abithar the Mouse

My granddaughter, Hadassah, e-mailed me the other day very excited because she now has a pet mouse. It seems her maternal Granny has a new pet snake and was about to feed it lunch when Hada intervened and rescued it, literally, from the jaws of death because it was "soooooooooo cute". I'll take her word for it.

It's not as if Hada and her siblings are deprived of pets, mind you. At present, the family has: 6 horses (all rescued), 3 (or is it 4) cats, 2 snakes, 1 blue-tongued skink, and 1 nervous dog. The neighbor's chickens who roam about the property don't count but they're worth an honorable mention.

Allow me to introduce, Abithar the Mouse. He must be fed every two hours with an eye dropper and he is bathed on a regular basis although I think the latter is not exactly necessary for his survival. As you can see, he even has his own mouse-sized skateboard (pilfered from Barbie?).

Our Hadassah is quite the animal lover and nature girl. I think we have the makings of a great veterinarian or zoologist someday!
