The Logic Of Amelie or Who Can Figure Out A Five-Year Old?

Today was a busy day! It was the first day back from our long weekend jaunt to New York and I had to rise early to take Amelie to preschool; then, pick her up and return her safely home. Afterward, it was off to pick up Lucious at "camp" where he'd been staying while we were gone. Amelie begged me to go along to pick up Lucious and after getting Mama's permission, off we went the forty or so miles to collect our furry family member.

That forty miles was filled with "Little Miss Chatterbox" which I truly enjoyed; however, I had a difficult time explaining to my grandgirl the perils of my turning around and looking at her books while driving. Finally, I had to explain it like this: "Amelie, there are two major reasons people get into car crashes: one is going to fast and the other is not paying attention. If I'm looking at your books, I'm not paying attention to my driving, so I'm likely to crash the car and we'll get into an accident."

Without missing a beat, she replied: "Well, Granny, I'll just have to visit you in the hospital. Either that, or visit you in jail!"
